Destination

Land of giants and ancient rhythms.

From the endless plains of the Serengeti to the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, Tanzania is safari at a scale that is difficult to describe and impossible to forget.

Why Tanzania

What the ground gives you.

Tanzania holds the largest concentration of wildlife on earth. The Serengeti alone carries close to two million wildebeest and zebra on a year-round circuit, trailed by the densest predator population in Africa. Below it, the Ngorongoro Crater keeps a self-contained world of some 25,000 animals inside its walls.

Between them sit the baobab country of Tarangire, where elephant herds gather in the dry months, and Lake Manyara, with its tree-climbing lions and flamingo shallows. Most journeys thread these together on the classic northern circuit, and most travellers wish they had given it another two days.

Practicalities

Planning Tanzania.

When is the best time for a Tanzania safari?
June to October is the dry season and the easiest game viewing, because animals concentrate around water and the grass is short. January to March brings the Serengeti calving season in the southern plains, which is spectacular for predator action. April and May are the long rains: fewer vehicles, lower prices, tougher roads.
How many days do I need in Tanzania?
Three days gets you into the Serengeti and out again. Five to six days lets you combine the Serengeti with the Ngorongoro Crater without rushing. Seven to ten days opens up Tarangire and Lake Manyara and gives the trip room to breathe, which is where most people wish they had landed.
Can I combine Tanzania with Kenya?
Yes, and it is one of our most requested journeys. The Serengeti and the Masai Mara are the same ecosystem divided by a border, so combining them lets you follow the migration across it. We handle the crossing and the logistics.
