Our story

Twiga is Swahili for giraffe.

The quiet, towering witness of the savanna, and the closest thing we have found to a description of how we would like to travel through it.

Why a giraffe.

A giraffe does not hurry, and it does not need to. It stands above the noise of the plain, sees further than anything else out there, and moves through the landscape without disturbing it.

That is the whole brief we set ourselves. Twiga Expeditions builds unhurried, considered travel: expeditions led by people who read the land, move gently through it, and return guests home with a longer view of the world.

We are a tailor-made outfit by conviction, not by marketing. There is no catalogue here to sell you into. There is a set of routes we know intimately, a set of camps we have slept in, a set of guides we would send our own families out with, and a conversation, which is where your trip actually gets made.

What we hold to

Three words, and we mean all of them.

Grounded
Rooted in real places and real expertise, never gimmick. Our guides are from this land and have spent their lives reading it. When we tell you a park is worth three nights rather than two, it is because we have watched people regret the two.
Refined
Quiet luxury: generous space, calm type, no clutter. That means unhurried days, private vehicles, and camps chosen for where they sit and how they feel rather than for the length of their amenity list.
Wild
The land leads. We follow it with respect and wonder. We will not chase a leopard off its kill for a photograph, and we will not promise you a river crossing that nature has not agreed to.
The open plains stretching to the horizon at golden hour

How we work

Nothing here is off the shelf.

The itineraries published on this site are starting points. Every one of them has been walked, driven and slept in, and every one of them will be redrawn the moment you tell us something about yourself.

We design across the whole range, not only the top of it. The guiding, the care and the honesty stay identical whichever camps you choose; what changes is the level of comfort. Tell us your budget plainly and we will tell you plainly what it buys.

And if we think the trip you are describing will not work, whether that is the wrong month, the wrong park, or too many nights in a vehicle, we will say so. That is the entire value of talking to someone who actually knows the ground.
